Caturday Wisdom #164

Do not be a dog. Ralph

It's still Saturday somewhere..? We had a lovely, docile dog visitor last weekend that I personally very much enjoyed. Ralph did not feel the same way and spent the day hiding and dribbling and being cross. Ivy was much braver and tried to investigate the visitor but didn't appreciate the way the dog wagged his tail every time she got near it.

Caturday Wisdom #160

When someone tells you that it's almost Autumn it's good to remember that you never took off your winter coat. Ralph

I know lots of people like the cooler seasons but I am not one of those people. If I had to guess I would say neither is Ralph, even though he's a lot warmer than me at all times.

Caturday Wisdom #159

It's important to use your imagination. I am imagining that I haven't completely destroyed this and that it still looks remotely like a mouse. Ralph

Ralph and Ivy continue to love these mice that our mum knitted.
Thanks for all the well-wishes last week. I am off my crutches and the freedom is honestly intoxicating. If you would like to try this for yourself, only stand on one leg for 14 days. You will build one very strong gluteal muscle...

Caturday Wisdom #157

It's ok to be disappointed when your human takes an empty suitcase to Japan and doesn't even bring back one tuna in it. Ralph

That's right, Adrianne returned from Japan without any fish in her luggage. Ralph was most disappointed but he did get to lick my salmon plate the other day so hopefully that's made up for it.

Caturday Wisdom #154

Hello from the other side. Ralph and Ivy

I'm sorry if I just got Adele stuck in your head.
Adrianne got a new bed a while ago and before the old bed found a new home there were too many beds in one bedroom and the cats quickly discovered that a bed is very good for climbing. This is probably one of the greatest days/nights of Ralph and Ivy's lives and one of the most alarming for Adrianne and I.
Also, the boxes they're sitting in remind me of the Brady Bunch intro but we need WAY more cats.

Caturday Wisdom #151

Falling asleep on the hand that feeds you is just as effective as biting it. Ralph

Ralph and Ivy have been enjoying the sun that we've had lately but there's still no better place for a nap than on a human.

Caturday Wisdom #150

Go in the shade, feel dismayed. Ralph

Ralph know's what he's about here, there's only one good place to walk down the stairs and that's in the sunny part only. Not sure this weekend is going to be a good one for sun but we can hope.

Caturday Wisdom #147

Why play hide and seek when you could play hide and sleep?! Ralph

Ralph did not want to participate in my photoshoot this day. He had fallen asleep in the sun and couldn't be bothered moving away from me so in classic sun-drunk style, just hid behind a paw. I'm hoping for some more weather like this but it's not looking good.

Caturday Wisdom #145

This is an easy way to get extra fluffy towels. Ralph

Cat hair is a mysterious substance - if you have a cat you'll know this. There is not a place in our house that's free from cat hair. Not the bathtub, not the food, nothing. Once again it's lucky they're cute!

Caturday Wisdom #143

A good balance of light and dark is imperative. Ralph

Ralph has found the ideal spot squished between the couch cushions and Adrianne's jumper. All he ever really wants is someone to sit still enough for him to fall asleep on them. He may be in luck this weekend as it's supposed to rain the whole time.

Caturday Wisdom #142

Happy paws don't have to make everyone happy. Ralph

Ralph and Ivy are actually both pretty good at using gentle paws on bare skin. In summer when we have bare legs and shoulders they tend not to climb on us as much and only really scratch us accidentally when they get over-excited while playing chasing games with each other.
On this day Ralph joined me for a couch nap where I found his sleeping position less comfortable than he did...

Caturday Wisdom #139

Sing like nobody's listening. Ivy

Ivy is actually mid-yawn here, but she does like to have a good old yowl - only if she thinks you're not paying attention though!

Caturday Wisdom #137

Good things come to those who wait.  Ralph

I heard a very quiet rustling sound in the hallway and came out to find this.  It's been a long time since Ralph managed to get his paws on a roll of toilet paper to shred.  It's apparently hugely satisfying for him - I have to keep my toilet paper on top of the bathroom cabinet where he can't get it it, otherwise it ends up in thousands of tiny pieces.  Clearly on this day I was distracted before I put it back, much to Ralph's delight (and my chagrin).

Caturday Wisdom #135

The key to camouflage is choosing somewhere super-obvious but staying very still. Ivy

Believe it or not, it took some searching before we found the cats this day. We had both just come home from a walk with our Dad and the family dog, both of which Ralph had laid eyes on but they hadn't come into the house or anything but the cats were nowhere to be seen.
They're very much 'scaredy-cats', they don't like strangers and particularly men with loud voices so they will often disappear temporarily if we get a courier delivery or visitors.
We know their normal hiding spots by now but after checking them all we were flummoxed until out of the corner of my eye I saw something by the window which turned out to be Ivy in weasel-mode! We had spent a good 5 minutes looking and calling them by this point so she had been watching us the whole time from her window spot.
Eventually we also discovered Ralph's rather terrible attempt at hiding, his head was hidden to be fair but there's quite a lot more to Ralph than just his head...

I don't know if their hiding or our seeking is more embarrassing.

Caturday Wisdom #132

A cup of tea and a lie down sounds just as good to a cat. Ralph

Ralph is happiest when you sit down and stay down. He is unhappiest when you go into a room and shut him out, even if it's necessary because he won't let you sleep or won't stop lying on fabric you are attempting to rotary-cut and you are trying to avoid giving him a haircut.
I have just caught my first cold of the winter so I will be doing plenty of sitting and staying this weekend, particularly as the weather is supposed to be miserable. Ralph WILL be happy.

Caturday Wisdom #123

Finding a reliable heat source will ensure you enjoy a warm and happy winter. Ralph

Unfortunately I don't sleep that well so I'll often have a nap on the couch at some point during the weekend to catch up. Ralph does this also (not just on weekends) so I frequently find myself with a little nap buddy which works out quite well for the both of us. He's very malleable when dozy so I can just put him where I want him and he'll sleep there.
Ivy will sometimes deign to sleep on you but god forbid you try to move her or yourself - that is not acceptable.

Caturday Wisdom #122

Possession is nine tenths of the law. Ralph

I probably wouldn't take legal advice from Ralph but they do have a way of taking possession of your things that is impressive/annoying. Ralph and Ivy both take after Phoebe from Friends where if you try to remove them from somewhere they become incredibly heavy and limp. Luckily they are quite a lot smaller than Phoebe.
I'm also including a bonus picture this week. It's been very cold lately, look at what Ralph resorted to. Look at this little weirdo. This kills me, enjoy.

Caturday Wisdom #120

Surround yourself with love - natural or manmade. Ralph

Ralph's not fussy, as long as it's fuzzy and warm he's into it. In this picture he is sandwiched between the minky underside of this quilt and my woollen jumper. He is also resting his head on my hand for maximum inconvenience, but just look at that satisfaction!

Caturday Wisdom #117

If you do enough yoga you too can check the smell of your feet with ease. Ralph

Even Ralph has to ease into a pose like this. His feet and butt get closer to his face the longer he is squished upside down somewhere, preferably next to a warm human.
If you're Kiwi/Aussie, have a nice long weekend, everyone else have a nice regular-length weekend!

Caturday Wisdom #115

You say "sleep", I say "how high?" Ralph

Ralph is still happiest when using the maximum number of quilts as a bed. Who wouldn't like to be that satisfied with their sleeping situation??
