WIP Wednesday

I have had a few weeks break from WIP Wednesday, but am keen to get back in the swing of things.

This week, I am really focussed on finishing a new quilt for my friend's wedding present.  My design is inspired by this quilt top made by Rita of Red Pepper Quilts.

Emerald Quilt

When I make a quilt for a wedding present, I like to try and make something that will appeal to both the bride and the groom (i.e., not super girly).  For this couple, I wanted to incorporate one of their wedding colours (green), work with traditional piecing, and end up with something that sits comfortably in a modern context.

Kona Ice Frappe

I ended up going with almost all solids, with a very small amount of a green floral Philips Jacob print that picks up both the green and aqua which make up the principal colours of this quilt.  The solids are both Kona cottons from Robert Kaufman - the green is Clover and the aqua is Ice Frappe.

And here are the first four blocks.

Emerald Half Square Triangles Quilt

I am hoping to finish the remaining eight large blocks and assemble the quilt top by the end of today.  The large half square triangle block seems to be a variation on Birds in the Air, but with more small triangles than usual.  Does anyone know if it has a proper name?

Also, look at Ralph sharing his chair so nicely.  I think other quilting cat owners will understand...

Wish me luck finishing up this Emeralds and Ice quilt!

Those are gorgeous!! I love the little pop of print in there. :) Also, my cat lays across my shoulders while I work. So I totally understand!

Love this, the colours are so pretty! Cats are hilarious , one day I'm probably going to stitch through one of my cat's paws she gets so close when I'm sewing!

My cat does the exact same thing !! Yesterday, he was laying in front of my sewing machine - umm excuse me please ? It's not like it was the only place in the entire house where he could sit !
And if there is fabric on the floor (fabric I'm using, not just fabric tossed there), it takes about 0.0001sec before he's on it trying to hide. But it wouldn't be as funny to quilt without two cats :)

I love the blocks !! And the little bit of prints too :)

That's really beautiful! And, yeah, my cat tries the same thing all the time -- fortunately she's learned that the sewing machine makes a noise she doesn't like, so she leaves me alone then.

The pop of print is PERFECT!! And my cat is doing the same thing RIGHT now!!! She'd prefer if I just moved off of the chair but I'm holding my ground....

Beautiful quilt! My cat is annoyed with me because I just bought a new sewing chair with a nylon seat instead of fabric so he has taken to napping in my strings bin instead. Always love seeing others cats...

My cat is doing the exact same thing right now as I sit at the computer!! And I spotted the tail of the other one on the table...
