WIP Wednesday

This weekend I started a totally new quilt - I have plenty of other things to be getting on with but couldn't resist.  I've decided to make a series of quilts using improv curves.  I've finished one improv curve quilt so far (I haven't shown it on the blog because it's for an exhibition where the rules require it not to be shown online), so this is the second, and I have ideas for a third quilt and a fourth quilt as well.

Hadley quilt in progress

I bought a bundle of Denyse Schmidt's latest line, Hadley, from Massdrop when they had it on sale.  I've seen quite a few people saying they don't love the inclusion of solids in this collection, but the solids were actually one of the things that sealed the deal for me.

This is where my quilt is at so far.  I think I'll rearrange the order of the rows, but I'm liking the kind of crazy vibe.  I have quite a lot of offcuts from these blocks and I'm planning to put them together with some cream yardage to make a double sided quilt.

Have you ever made a series of quilts as a way of exploring a technique or idea?

I will often make a smaller version of a quilt first to test a technique or fabric placement/choice. Often I change the concept for the larger quilt but I have a ready made supply of baby quilts ready to go. I applaud your exploration of this technique with a series I just have so many ideas I want to move on to the next one!

Good on you. I have never sewn a curve (at least in a quilt) ever. Too chicken

My comment has been eaten...?

So, here I go again..

Tackling curves is brave!
I’ve never made a series of quilts to test a technique or idea, but pillow covers. They may not show the same effect as an entire quilt, but it works for me to see if I like a technique and they require less fabrics...

No I've not made a series of quilts to explore a technique or idea, love watching others do it though! I love double sided quilts, can't wait to see how this one turns out.

I like the solids in the line; the top is looking great! I have definitely made several quilts with a variation on a theme to explore an idea before, sometimes you just catch a bug and it is fun to keep making more! :)

I really don't like Hadley when I see the pictures of just the fabric, but i LOVE all the quilts I've seen made with it. I agree with you about the inclusion of the solids (I think that's why I like all the quilts so far). Yours looks great, love the waves!

Loving the 50s vibe of this quilt! That green is especially great! I'm with you on the inclusion of solids!
I have definitely planned a series along a theme but so far the count is one!!

For some reason I'm not able to comment on your blog with my phone or iPad, except one time when your sister posted?? It does happen on some blogs. I mostly read on my iPad and often comment but don't always get round to going on the computer to comment when it won't post my comment. It must be some techy glitch? I can't seem to figure it out yet... Rest assured I always enjoy reading your posts and often comment, it just usually doesn't post!

Looks beautiful and the colours are great! Exciting pattern with the curves! I'm looking for to see this finished and your other curve quilt as I haven't done much curves yet. x Teje

I've never tackled curves before, it looks tricky. I made up four cushions the same so I could try get some triangle practise! Like most quilting techniques it's only easy when you know how, or rather, when you try, try again.
