Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!

UPDATE - THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED - THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED

It's Sew Mama Sew giveaway day!  This is a great way to discover new blogs and of course get in to win some great prizes.  Make sure you pop over to Sew Mama Sew to check out everyone who has linked up a giveaway.

This time around I'm giving away this bundle of fabrics which is co-ordinated around this totally awesome bee hexagon print which I got from Stitchbird this weekend.  You'll get a quarter of a yard of each fabric, but some piece will be fat quarters and some width of fabric cuts.

To enter, simply leave a comment with the best quilting tip you've ever been given. Followers old and new can get a second entry by leaving a second comment. This giveaway is open to everyone (including international participants), but if I can't contact you, you can't win. If you are a no-reply blogger, please leave your email address in the comment.

The giveaway will stay open until around 6pm Sunday May 18 2014 (New Zealand Time), and I will use the random number generator at random.org to pick a winner then. Good luck everyone!

By the way, I usually respond to all comments, but giveaways can be a little overwhelming, so I hope you don't mind if I don't respond to your comment on this post.

Put the rotary cutter down after 9 PM (or whatever your cut off time is). It's better to set it aside than to ruin it!

Change your rotary blades often!

I think the best tip I've gotten is that's it's only fabric, so there's no reason to be afraid to try making something with it, no matter how difficult the project may seem or how much experience you have. Thanks for the giveaway!

Very nice! I don't know if I've even gotten any tips. Must not and out with the right crown. :) I find pressing seams pretty important. Thanks!

No fear, just dive in and try something new

Always backstitch at the beginning and end of your seams!

My two best quilt tips seem like they oppose each other, but they don't.

First, "if it really bothers you, take it out." You'll never regret fixing it, but you will always remember it's there.

Second, "if you can't see it riding by on a horse don't worry about it." Only the quilt police care about perfectly matched seams and super sharp points. If you need to get too close to see it, you're being a perfectionist and that isn't good.

Oh, one more maxim. Not an entry, already did that. "Pressing is the difference between hand made and home made."

I am just getting started in quilting, but have learnt the hard way with recent sewing that measure twice, cut once only works if you've triple checked your measurements...
I saw that pixilated quilt on Svetlana's blog, and have followed it back to Blue Elephant Stitches... I think I might just have to give it a go.
Thanks for the chance, it is lovely to see a Kiwi Quilter taking part!

My gram says the difference between a good quilt and a great quilt is using your iron, I agree!

Always pre=wash!

Patience. Whether in cutting, sewing, ironing, measuring, what have you! It is crucial to a successful outcome!

Thanks so much for the giveaway! My best tip has to be to always have patience, because it is better to take the time to do things right the first time than to spend extra quality time with your seam ripper. ;)

I was really grateful when a quilt instructor informed me I didn't have to pin each seam; as long as the pieces are accurately cut and sewn and the seams pressed in opposite directions.

To wash and press fabrics before cutting and to press all seams well.

I'm an old follower. love your blog by the way!

my favorite tip has been to sew a very short row of stitches along the tricky points so they come out perfect or so you don't have to rip out too many if they don't.

Measure twice and cut once. Learned that one the hard way

To press fabric instead of ironing it, especially if I'm working with blocks with diagonal seams.

I was taught how to hold the ruler properly so it doesn't slip to the side and ruin your cut. Press directly down from the center.

walk away when you get frustrated! this tip has saved me a few days worth of continued mistakes lol

Thanks for the giveaway!

Lovely fabric! My best quilt tip is to use a quilt frame (for hand quilting). It gets nicer and it is easier to handle the blanket.
