Bye bye Google Reader

I'm sure many of you have caught up with the news that Google is getting rid of its Google Reader feature from 1 July 2013.  This is a shame for me, since it is what I had been using to keep up with all the blogs I follow (I'm too embarrassed to say exactly how many this is!).

However, help is at hand.  There are several other websites which will perform a similar feed reader function for you.  I am trying out both Bloglovin and feedly to see which one I prefer.  If anyone has a particular recommendation for a new feed reader, I would love to hear it!

In case you are switching to Bloglovin, here is the link so that you can follow my blog with Bloglovin.

I’mwith you on the embarrassing amount of blogs I have in Google Reader. I don’t understand why they stop, as so many bloggers use this feed reader.

Would love to hear your review on the new feed readers. Bloglovin wants me to log-in with my facebook account, which I don’t have and don’t want.

aarrgghhh I am HATING this!! I have a mac that has an old operating system so I can't use lots of these feed readers because they won't even download! I'm going to try out The Old Reader

I just switched to Feedly and so far am really liking it. I like that I can set different views for each category, so my color palettes category shows all photos, while my Kindle books category just shows titles and most of my quilting categories show cards - a large photo and a short intro. I'm still struggling with a few settings, but once I got over the fear that Feedly would lose my feeds once Google Reader vanished for good, I was pretty happy.

I'm bummed too :( I downloaded the feedly app onto my phone yesterday and so far I like it. At least they let us know a few months ahead of time so that we have time to find something new. One advantage to feedly that I have noticed is that it is really easy to delete blogs from my list from the app, something I couldn't do with my google reader very easily. I read entirely too many blogs and I need to take a few off of my list!

I look forward to reading more about which one you end up choosing and why... it's good we have advance warning although time does fly by. It seems like Reader is so popular but I'm sure I'll get used to something else just fine!

I made the switch to Bloglovin and think that I truly am loving it. Plus, it was super easy to transfer all of my Google Reader info over with a click of the button.

I have tried both but am tending towards Feedly. Blog lovin doesn't deliver things in real time. We Aussie and New Zealanders are ahead of many of the blog posters in the rest of the world so we are getting posts hours after they are posted. Does that make sense?

It seems everyone is jumping over to Bloglovin...i just signed up for that too.
I think it sucks that Google Reader is 'quitting', because I have 100 blogs I follow and well, enjoyed having everything in one app and only needing to scroll lol.
But the transfer to Bloglovin was easy, just like Kristy said.

I signed up for Feedly yesterday. Only on the desktop so far. I use Google reader on Flipboard on my iPad which I really like but Feedly won't work the same way in Flipboard so I guess I have to get an app. So far I like the interface of Feedly and it was super easy to synch all the feeds from Reader. I feel like I'm always on a learning curve of some new tech thing, just starting to get the hang of the new iTunes for my Radio NZ podcasts I listen to for a taste of home here in Aussie!

Yes that's a good point. Real time is important...
