Echino Quilt #2

It's a bit of a mixed up week - even though it's Wednesday I'm sharing a finish rather than a WIP!

Echino Quilt #2

I made an Echino quilt last year, for someone else, but I really loved it and wanted to make another one for myself.  It's super simple, just 8" finished squares.  I think the first one was slightly more successful than this one, probably because I kept the colour scheme a bit tighter.

Echino Quilt #2

This quilt is pretty big at 72" by 88" (actually, I find this size totally enormous and I'm in awe of anyone who makes even bigger quilts!), and I loved the long-arm quilting on the last one, so I had the same done again by Sue Burnett.

Echino Quilt #2

With minky on the back and linen on the front, this is one soft and super heavy quilt.  It will be perfect for snuggling on the couch in winter.

  1. Perfect time to have a lovely snuggly quilt ready for the couch - believe me winter is coming! Brrr it is freezing here today in the South. I do think simple squares can be so effective, especially when the fabrics are so interesting to look at. I love the colours together. Have a happy week!

  2. Absolutely gorgeous. I don't think you need more than squares when the fabric is so vibrant. I went and looked at the earlier version to compare Mohave to say I prefer Tis one. The colours are more complex.

  3. Love it and find it funny cause I just now...just NOW finished a scrappy charm square top. Two hundred 5" squares made a nice 54"x 72" top! Yep...love squares!

  4. This one is even better than the last. I love the larger scale prints. They give it wonderfully happy chaos, and the color mix is just complicated enough to be Wally interesting.

  5. I love this! And I agree with everyone else, you have let the fabric shine by using squares. I am planning my own Echino quilt eventually. I am still in the gathering phase on it. I have a patten in my head that I want to do. Hopefully, it will work out! Yours certainly did. I like both of your versions. They're both just beautiful!

  6. Oh I completely disagree! I like this one much better! There's so much more to look at.

Enjoy sunggling under your new quilt

  7. I think it turned out really nice. :)

I have some Echino fabric but I am scared to cut into it, so all I've done is look at it every time I get into my stash for something.

  8. I never thought of a minky/linen combo, but it sounds lovely.

  9. Gorgeous! Isn't a minky backing just divine? I have just finished my first minky-backed quilt as a gift but am definitely going to use it again on a quilt for home, so soft and snuggly. Great work, Echino is such a cool range!

  11. Really like the results from your fabric choices in this quilt. Long arm quilting would be the only way to go with such a big quilt.
