Oakshott and low volume plus quilt top

I managed to get some photos of my Oakshott and low volume plus quilt top this weekend.

Actually, for a change, my sister was the photographer, and I was the quilt holding assistant.  A typical Wellington windy day meant I was holding on for dear life and my sister was trying not to get smacked in the face by the end of the quilt!

If you are interested in making something similar, you can find the measurements I used to make these blocks here, together with the similar but slightly different measurements used by Rachel, whose quilt inspired mine.

I'm really happy with how this quilt has turned out so far.  I don't think the background looks too busy any more, and I love how vibrant the Oakshott fabrics look against all the low volume fabrics.  The variation in the low volume fabrics is great too - it's a bit like a grown-up eye spy quilt!

Now, I just need to find a backing and work out how to quilt it. Any suggestions for the quilting design? This one has me kind of stumped!

    It's gorgeous!! I love the idea of using those low volume prints with the bright solids. Well done :) For quilting, I would do wonky diagonal lines across the whole quilt, to give it another element of design - a contrast to all the symmetry! But that's just me :)

    It looks great! If it were me, I'd leave the oakshotts unquilted, and do a geometric FMQ design across the LV. I think jess's idea would look great too though!

    I would do a straight line quilting in some way either up and down rows or something - something not to detract from the design.

    That is SO SO SO stunning!! Love it. :D I'd echo quilt and do straight line in the background. Well, actually I'd just do straight lines, but would wish I'd taken the time to echo quilt and do straight line in the background. ;)

    It's beautiful and you've managed to capture the beauty of the Oakshott fabrics - they really shine and the LV fabrics are perfect as a muted backdrop.

    It is beautiful. I love the background. I will be very interested in how you quilt it. I have a plus quilt top for my son (I think I just have 3 or 4 more rows to sew on) and I am not sure how to quilt it either. I will probably do an all over quilting design -maybe bubbles? But I am not sure.

    Another lovely looking quilt top Adrianne! For the quilting you could do square spirals in the low volume squares formed between the crosses and then two vertical lines each way , width and length along the crosses?

    It just keeps getting better :) If it were me I think I would just do some simple crosshatching. But that's pretty much what I always do when I can't figure out what to do!

    Love it! I've been wanting to do one of these for a while, but I TOO hate cutting anything that isn't a 1/2 mark or a whole...anything else on the ruler freaks me out! Thanks for sharing your process and easier cuts!

    I am loving this. I love that low tone with solids at the moment. I really like the oakshott - I never tried it before and I think that I am going to have too :-).
