WIP Wednesday

On Friday night, I cut and stitched up this super quick quilt top.  There's someone I've been wanting to make a quilt for for a while, but I couldn't think of quite the right thing.  I've also been wanting to make an all Echino quilt for ages, and a couple of weeks ago it clicked that an Echino quilt might be just the thing for this particular recipient.

I choose a whole bunch of Echino fabrics from Stitchbird's extensive selection, sticking to mainly black, pink, purple, yellow and blue/aqua fabrics.  Because the Echino fabrics have such large scale prints, the chunky squares I used work well and meant that I put this quilt top together in about 3 hours.

I've sent this quilt away for long-arm quilting, because I'm putting minky on the back.  It's been a while since I had something long-arm quilted and I'm excited to get this one back.  With the linen blend top and a minky back, it's certainly going to be one warm and heavy quilt!

Any other Echino fans out there?

  1. Very nice. I love the fact that you have a couple pieced squares in there. I don't know if this was your original intent, or it you just did it to use up leftover bits, but that drew my eye immediately and I think it adds a lot of interest. This is a simple quilt, but a real fun one. Well done!

  3. I love Echino, but I have a very sad little selection. Whenever I buy it I just don't have the heart to use it. Your quilt is beautiful and it will be so cozy with a minky back. I am looking forward to seeing the finished product :)

  5. That is a great quilt. I have a few Echino fabrics, but can't figure out what to do with them. I like this because of the large scale of the prints, it's a good use of fabrics like that.

  6. I love the bright and cheerful effect of this quilt. It's going to be cosy when finished, so it's a pity you're heading into summer now! I have to check out Echino, I've not heard of it/them before.

  7. I am a complete Echino fan and just love this! The only quilt I have ever kept for our family is an Echino panel that a friend bought for me and I hand quilted it in pearl cotton. I just love it - so bright and gorgeous!

  9. I love the prints you've chosen - have not yet worked with Echino but always admire at the online shops! Have been thinking about getting their "cheater print" and cutting it up to make a hexie quilt with it...
